Costs associated with the stakeholder process are minimal if stakeholder group members commit to doing the research and support work, although someone in the local government will need to be assigned to coordinate meetings. This cost will rise if paid staff provides the estimated 20-30 hours of support time per week.
Valuable expertise from the public and private sector can be brought to the stakeholder process at no cost, as the stakeholder group's constituents are appointed volunteers.
Once the group recommends and receives approval to move specific programs forward, costs will vary with activities.
When stakeholder recommendations are adopted, implementation activities may range from needing minimal staff and volunteer to time to requiring a full time air quality expert. In general, plan on needing about 20 hours of staff time per week at this point in the process.
